UK Specification
Right Hand Drive
Volvo is renowned for putting safety first. If you’re already in the UK - or planning to arrive soon - why not purchase a UK-specification (right-hand drive) Volvo for your time here? Use it throughout your three-year tour, and six months before the end of your assignment, we'll arrange a US-spec vehicle for you to take home or continue on to your next posting.
While stationed in the UK, you’re entitled to own two vehicles VAT-free at any one time. If you plan to ship a car from the United States, this would count as a “concession vehicle” - leaving you the opportunity to purchase a UK-spec Volvo as your second vehicle. Relocating overseas can be stressful, but we’re here to make the purchase and delivery of both your UK-spec and US-spec vehicles as seamless as possible.
Once your tour is complete, we guarantee to buy back your UK-spec Volvo* back.
If it suits you (but feel free to do it sooner), six months before your departure, you can enjoy a truly unique experience by visiting the World of Volvo in Sweden to collect your US-spec vehicle. From there, tour Sweden, Denmark, and Germany in your new car on your way back to the UK. Volvo will cover flights for two people, one night’s accommodation, airport transfers, a factory tour, and travel arrangements to Sweden through their specialist partner, Adtrav.
When you’re ready and settled back in the UK with your new US spec Volvo, Volvo will ship your vehicle from our showroom near RAF Lakenheath to any US Volvo retailer (within five years from the date of collection) for just £500.
*Your vehicle is purchased tax-free at the point of registration. However, if the vehicle is later sold to a British individual or traded with a UK company, all applicable taxes must be paid to HMRC based on the vehicle’s used value. This process is handled through your responsible base, which will consult HMRC for a VAT valuation. VAT must be settled before any sale - whether to the general public or to Volvo Military Sales. Once taxes are paid, the part-exchange value will be assessed based on the vehicle’s condition, service history, and mileage. Trade values are calculated using either Glass’s Guide or Black Book, both comparable to the US Kelley Blue Book.
